Connect Shiprocket to ForthRoute: API User, Modules and Allowed IP
Last verified:
Connect your own Shiprocket account for India returns with a dedicated API user, the recommended modules and ForthRoute’s allowed IP.
Key takeaway: Connect your own Shiprocket account for India returns with a dedicated API user, the recommended modules and ForthRoute’s allowed IP.
Use this guide to create a dedicated Shiprocket API user and connect it to ForthRoute for India returns. You will need access to your Shiprocket account, ForthRoute in Shopify, and your warehouse return address.
The connection uses your own Shiprocket account and wallet. After connecting, contact us so we can help check your first return before you rely on the full workflow.
1. Create a dedicated API user
In Shiprocket, open Settings → API and choose Add New API User or Create API User. Menu labels may vary slightly.
Enter an email address different from the email you use for your main Shiprocket login.
Under Select modules to access, select all five options:
- Orders (create, update)
- Settings
- Shipments
- Listings
- Courier
Click Apply if shown. We recommend this full-module configuration for setup; it gives the API user access to all five categories, which is broader than ForthRoute’s current API calls use. This follows documented full-module setups from Odoo, EcoReturns and eShipz; it is not a provider-certified minimum for ForthRoute or a claim that each module is individually required.
2. Add ForthRoute's allowed IP
Under Allowed IPs for PII access, enter:
34.139.163.234
Only this one IP is needed for ForthRoute's current connection, even if the form allows up to five. This is the outbound IP verified from our live app on 8 September 2026. You do not need to find your own computer's IP address.
Finish creating the API user. Keep the API-user password Shiprocket provides, whether displayed during setup or delivered by email. Do not send it to ForthRoute support.
3. Connect in ForthRoute
Open ForthRoute in Shopify, then Settings → Shipping → Shiprocket (India).
Enter the dedicated API user's email and password and click Connect. Use the API user's credentials, rather than your main Shiprocket login.
A successful connection confirms that the credentials were accepted. The first return still needs to be checked separately. ForthRoute checks login before saving your credentials encrypted.
4. Complete your return address
Under Settings → Shipping, complete your warehouse return address, including the street, city, state, India, six-digit PIN code and contact details requested by the form.
For a return, the shopper's address is the pickup location and your warehouse is the delivery destination. Check both before the first booking.
5. Review label billing
Open Shipping Label Charges in ForthRoute and approve Shopify usage billing when you are ready to proceed. Approval by itself does not charge you.
Shiprocket charges shipping to your own Shiprocket account at your rates. ForthRoute separately charges US$0.10 through Shopify when an AWB/tracking number or return label is successfully generated.
Connecting the account does not incur this fee. A failed attempt that generates neither an AWB nor a label does not incur it. If an AWB is generated but the label PDF is unavailable, the generation can still qualify for the fee.
6. Check your first return with us
Once connected, contact ForthRoute support. We will help review the setup and check the first return's booking, tracking details, any label document, customer notification and billing result. Pickup confirmation is a separate check from receiving a tracking number. Production network connectivity was verified on 8 September 2026; a merchant-authenticated first return, pickup, label PDF, customer notification and billing result have not yet been verified together end to end. Carrier availability depends on your Shiprocket account and serviceability; a particular carrier or PIN-code coverage is not guaranteed.
If something does not work
- Credentials rejected: confirm you entered the dedicated API-user credentials and copied the password correctly.
- Access denied: check that all five modules are selected and that the allowed IP is exactly 34.139.163.234. If it continues, contact support with the error text and the step that failed.
- Connection or network error: contact support; we can check the live connection. Do not keep creating new API users as a workaround.
- Address error: check the warehouse and shopper information, including their six-digit Indian PIN codes and contact details.
- An AWB exists but no PDF appears: contact support before retrying the booking. Preserve the existing return so its state can be checked.
Share error text without passwords, API keys or shopper personal details. Contact ForthRoute support.

Frequently asked questions
Does connecting Shiprocket charge me?
There is no connection fee. Shopify usage-billing approval alone does not charge you. Shiprocket shipping is paid through your own account; ForthRoute separately charges US$0.10 when an AWB/tracking number or return label is successfully generated. An AWB can succeed even if its PDF is unavailable.
